Sandy Steen was born into a family environment of creativity. Her father was an artist and her mother created a world of artistic freedom for Sandy. She studied at the Des Moines Art Center while growing up, and continued her studies at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. While raising a family of four children, Sandy always kept active with artistic projects. She was a freelance floral designer and has works shown through Bloomingdales, Calyx & Corolla, and Hallmark. Sandy began painting furniture and sold pieces through Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery gift shop and other boutiques in Nebraska and Iowa. She is also an accomplished muralist. Her murals can be found in homes and businesses throughout Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Ohio, Florida and Washington. Presently Sandy is focusing on canvas painting, inspired by her recent travels to India, Mexico and Tibet. Her latest venture has been writing a children's book about her three grandchildren.
